ERASMUS STUDENT MOBILITY - UNDERGRADUATE

Dear Erasmus students, welcome to Slovenia!

Are you a student thinking about Erasmus mobility and are looking for a nice place to study? Well, think about coming to study at the Faculty of social work in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. There are many good reasons for coming over:

Most importantly, the quality of studies at the Faculty of social work is high. In the academic year 2010/2011, we received 22 Erasmus students and 10 students noted that they were “very happy” with the quality of selected study courses, 11 were “satisfied” and only 1 thought “it wasn’t that bad”.

The Faculty of social work is a part of University of Ljubljana, one of the biggest universities in Europe. If you study at one of its many faculties, you can have additional courses at other faculties. For example, if you choose some courses at the Faculty of social work, you are free to choose courses also at the Faculty of social sciences or the Faculty of arts. Or, if you sign your Learning agreement with any faculty incorporated in University of Ljubljana, you can always add courses from the Faculty of social work.

Ljubljana is described by students as a friendly, beautiful, and vibrant city.  Out of 22 Erasmus students who studied at The Faculty of social work in 2010/2011, 17 students were “very happy” with their stay in Ljubljana, 4 were “satisfied” and 1 thought “it wasn’t that bad”.

If you choose Slovenia, you get at least four countries for the price of one. Being small and nestled in the middle of Central Europe, it's only a short ride to Croatia, Italy (Venice) and Austria. Many Erasmus students are lured to Bosnia, Serbia and Hungary.

Protected nature is one of Slovenia’s hallmarks. The county is a perfect place for students who love nature and hiking. More than one third of the surface is protected area, almost 60% of Slovenia is forested!

For our Erasmus guests special activities are organized (trips, discussions, presentations ...).

Who can study at the Faculty of social work?
Any student from our partner institutions ( partner institutions). Even if you're not a student from these institutions, you will most probably be able to have some courses at the Faculty of social work, if you are inscribed at any other faculty at University of Ljubljana.

What courses can you study at the Faculty of social work?
You can find all courses available to Erasmus students in academic year 2011/2012 here: LIST OF COURSES FOR ERASMUS STUDENTS. You can choose any course (e.g, if you're in the third year, you can select courses from the first or the forth year ...).
IMPORTANT: Lectures in English are ordinarily organized only if a group for a particular course is big enough (normally 5 students). Otherwise, constultations in English are organized. If you want to be part of a regular course for Slovene students, choose Introduction to English language or English language for social workers.

Ok, you want to come, but what's the procedure?
Your home university should first nominate you to the Office of International Relations of the University of Ljubljana. The nominations should be sent to intern.office@uni-lj.si
After your home university has nominated you to study at the University of Ljubljana as an exchange student, you should fill in an online application. There is no need to send a paper copy of the application.
At the end of the online application you will find the necessary documents to upload to your application: Transcript of Records (of your home university), Learning Agreement and Language Certificate. Your application is complete and will be processed only after you have followed all the steps of the application system and entered all the required information.
After we have received your application and your host department has approved your application, we will send you an Acceptance letter and information on living and studying in Ljubljana.

What's the deadline for applications?
The deadline for sending applications for the secund (summer) semester 2012 is 15 November 2011. If you miss it, let us know and we'll try to arrange a solution. We're a student-friendly school.
If you want to come in the first (winter) semester 2011, contact Erasmus coordinator at .

What about accomodation?
The Faculty of social work is not taking care of accomodation. It's the job of International office at University of Ljubljana (). Ask for options. The cheapest and, according to Erasmus students, most fun option is a dormitory. The biggest and most popular is the one in Rožna dolina.

How much money will you need?
Approximately 450 EUR per month is an advisable sum to cover all your basic living costs. This figure would take into account all costs including accommodation, food, public transport and books.

When does the semester start and finish in academic calendar 2011/2012?
Winter semester: from 3 October 2011 to 20 January 2012
Final examinations: from 23 January 2012 to 17 February 2012

Summer semester: from 20 February 2012 to 8 June 2012

And here are some photos from our second trip in summer semester. We visited Posočje (the Upper Soča Valley): the Kozjak waterfall, the Soča gorge, an ecological farm in Soča village (with Bovec sheep), the Trenta museum and the Mlinarica chutes.

And here are some photos from our third trip in summer semester. We visited Dolenjska (Lower Carniola): Žužemberk in Suha krajina, Pusti Gradec in Lahinja regional park in Bela krajina and Ribnica in Kočevsko region.

Reactions from Erasmus students who studied at the Faculty of social work in 2010/2011:

"I studied at three faculties in Ljubljana, but I think this was the best one. Here groups were not so huge and the studies were clear and easy to understand! In many other faculties introductions of courses are very complicated to understand. I'm sad I didn't take more courses at your faculty." (First student from Finland)

"Teachers were really nice and had good knowledge of their subject." (Second student from Finland)

"In the beginning it was a little bit difficult because I didn't know English well, but professors have tried to help me in everything. I am satisfied, well, more than satisfied with this faculty." (Natalia from Spain)

"If I were Erasmus again, I would like to be received as I have been here." (David from Spain)

"I liked the coordination, it has been very easy to study here, since I have received good attention in this faculty. I have felt so good with the treatment received." (Maria from Spain)

"I have received a very personalized treatment. It has been all very nice!" (Javier from Spain)

"Everything was well organized. I felt very welcome. Professors were flexible." (Tobias from Germany)

"I liked that we had consultations so we were in small groups, only 2-6 people, not more. Then the teacher can focus more on students and their questions. It's a more individual way of work." (Student from Poland)

"I liked the relationships between professors and students, it looked very warm and friendly, because in my country there is some kind of distance between students and professors." (Aiste from Lithuania)

"Professors were very friendly and helpful. Some professors were really prepared and I learned a lot. Atmosphere at the faculty was warm." (Dovile from Lithuania)

"I liked how some of the professors treated me, they were really nice, they gave their best effort. I also liked Erasmus trips!" (Vendi from Croatia)
